Receiving zero tax payer dollars, the SLV Regional Solid Waste Facility (SLVRSWA) is a valuable public service and operates as a self-funded entity derived by its revenue proceeds. (SLVRSWA) is a Solid Waste Facility where the final treatment of Solid Wastes occurs. The SLVRSWA serves the six area regional partners it is designed to serve and support; Alamosa, Conejos, Costilla, Mineral, Rio Grande and Saguache counties. Hauling of solid wastes from other counties is discouraged and requires approval of the Landfill Manager.

The San Luis Valley Solid Waste Authority operates under a permit issued by the State of Colorado. The SLVRSWA accepts Municipal Solid Waste, Demolition Waste (with approval) and Special Wastes such as Friable Asbestos, Non-Friable Asbestos and Contaminated Soil.
