zSafety Tip: Fatigued Driving

Fatigued Driving

Driving while exhausted is very dangerous and more than one-third of people have fallen asleep at the wheel! We all need to be more conscientious about how we are feeling while we are driving. According to drowsydriving.org that being awake for eighteen hours is comparable to having a blood alcohol level of 0.05 and 0.10 after being awake for twenty-four hours. Even driving in this state can have the consequences of jail time. Being exhausted while driving keeps the driver from paying attention to the road and the need to make good decisions.

If you begin to become exhausted then pull over and take a nap! It is better to be rested and aware of your surroundings then to force yourself to drive while fatigued. Start learning the warning signs of driving drowsy like missing your turn, or drifting in and out of your lane. Overall make sure that you get enough sleep before driving to keep you and the others on the road safe.
